FUNDED PROJECTS

Our research on CMT4B3 will include efforts to understand the mutation in the SBF1 gene and its proteins or lack of proteins that cause the disease. Our research aims to discover the mechanism of muscle atrophy and axonal and nerve degeneration, with the goal of developing ways to stop or slow these processes and develop therapies to reverse the damage. Additional research focuses on the loss of production of the protein MTMR5, and how its loss plays a role in nerve and axonal degeneration.
